Justin experienced another 'first' this week. Friday he had surgery on his wrist. We went to my awesome Dr. Huish and he said that the break being just off the joint, and not exactly aligned (it was off about 20%) would rub wrong and after years of doing so would cause Justin major problems in the future. It would most likely create arthritis in Justin's wrist as he aged. So since he is a young whipper snapper, we decided surgery was the best option for him! Isn't he cute in his lil outfit!
After surgery the Dr. came out and the first thing he said to me was "That is a big guy" Ha ha. He told us that was the biggest plate he had ever used on a man's wrist and that surgery took him twice as long as he anticipated because Justin was such a big dude and because there was so much swelling. Despite him being so 'big' surgery went well and we were soon in recovery.J was given this cute 'swiss cheese block' pillow and commanded to wear it all weekend long. It is designed to keep his wrist above his heart at all times- to hopefully help with all the swelling! Man that big man and that big pillow are fun to sleep next to! I had about a foot or two of bed! Oh well :) I'm sorry to my hub that I am not a better, more patient nurse! I tried not to be TOO ornery when I was up all night getting meds, ice, snacks, readjustments etc. Good thing Justin's tough! There was some serious pain involved this weekend!
He is doing very well, very anxious to get this cast off! Poor guy will probably miss out on wakeboarding and motorcycling for most of the summer. Bummer. We're thankful all went well, this new age medicine stuff is amazing. We are lucky its at our fingertips!
Here is a picture of the breaks before surgery. These were taken the night he broke it before it was set. OUCHIE!!
